Donate to Families in Need this Christmas

Every year we serve hundreds of families at Christmas time. They come to us asking for toys for their children, food for their families and warm hats, gloves, and jackets. We do our best to provide but we’ve always fallen short. With an estimated 1,000 children between the ages of 2 and 18 in our neighborhood who’s families are unable to afford the essentials it is difficult to serve the need. If you’re interested in donating a toy to a child in need, or warm winter items you can bring unwrapped donations to our shelter at 725 Hudson Ave or purchase a gift from our Amazon Wish List. Unwrapped presents are preferred as we invite parents to the House of Mercy a few days before Christmas so they can pick out a toy for their child. Wrapping paper, gift bags, tape, and batteries are also made available to families when they come to shop for presents. On the same day we also provide boxes of food to families in need to cook their own Christmas dinner. We give out hundreds of hams, turkeys, potatoes and canned goods. Some of the most requested presents are:

  • African American Barbies and baby dolls
  • Footballs
  • Basketballs
  • Legos
  • Scooters

Most needed winter items:

  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • Socks – cotton or wool
  • Long underwear
  • Boots – all sizes men’s and women’s
  • Jackets – all sizes but especially XL – 5XL
  • Hand warmers
