Protecting the Rights of the Poorest of the Poor

You shouldn't have to give up your rights when you're homeless or poor. That's why we make it a vital part of our ministry to help people by advocating for their survival and basic rights.

It's important work, because there's a lot at stake. After all, we're trying to help people get food... shelter... clothing... medical assistance... heat for their homes... and money to pay their bills.

Of course, many of the people we serve have children. So we need to make sure they have food on the table. Warm clothes for the winter. And a roof over their heads.

Here's something else to remember. We help a lot of people who have serious psychological and emotional problems. Some can't read or write. Some have trouble expressing themselves. These problems make it very difficult for them to handle matters themselves.

That's why we take the time to look out for their best interests when they deal with social services, the medical community, the criminal justice and legal system, utility companies, landlords, schools, prisons, and the other organizations that have a big impact on their lives.

It's challenging work, because a single problem can take days... if not weeks... to resolve. And it's difficult for our small team to meet the growing need. But we consider advocacy for the poor to be a vital part of our mission. After all, if we don't do it, who will?

If you can support our advocacy efforts, you will make a big contribution to people who desperately need our help.
